Addis Ababa, February 18 (WIC) – A total of fifteen political parties are in contention for the upcoming city administration council election.
The political parties have fielded over 10,100 candidates nationwide, Yisema Jiru, deputy public relations head of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), told WIC.
Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) has fielded 7,276 candidates in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Oromia, Tigray, Amhara, and SNNPR. Kinjit has fielded 90 candidates in Addis Ababa and Amhara while Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP) has just one candidate in Addis Ababa.
NEBE is in talks with the Ethiopian Broadcast Authority (EBA) to allocate campaign airtime for the political parties, Yisema said.
The election will be held on April 14 and 24, 2013.
