France Telecom hands over Ethio Telecom administration to Ethiopians
Addis Ababa January 3, 2013(WIC) - France Telecom handed over on Wednesday administration works of Ethio Telecom to Ethiopians after completing its contract that lasted for two and a half years.
Ethiopian professionals have taken over the administration and some leadership from the French Company would stay for few months to provide support, it was noted.
During the contract of the French company, telecom accessibility which was only eight percent was expanded to 25 percent.
Although there is progress in accessibility the target is not achieved in terms of quality, Finance and Economic Affairs Cluster Coordinator with a Title of Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of Information Communication Technology, Debretsion Gebremichael said on the handing over ceremony in Addis Ababa.
According to Debretsion, Ethiopian professionals have acquired the skills needed in international telecom and there was no need to extend the contract of the French Company.
According to ERTA, the contract was aimed at uplifting the services of Ethio Telecom to international standards and facilitating technology transfer for domestic professionals.
