Some 5,000 taxpayers install cash register machines

Addis Ababa, December 7 (WIC) – The Oromia State Revenue Authority disclosed that it had made 5,000 taxpayers install cash register machines during the past 7 months.

Authority Director, Yohannes Dinkayehu, told WIC the stated sum of levels A and B taxpayers were made to use the machines so as to facilitate smooth way of collecting taxes.

The authority envisaged registering all level A and B taxpayers until the end of this year and all taxpayers to use the machine by the end of the Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP), he said.

According to Yohannes, the revenue collected during the past two years has been showing a significant increase following the efforts made to modernize the tax collection system and control illegal ones.
“Such efforts would also enable the authority to attain the plan it set to collect 8 billion birr by the end of the GTP period,” he said.

The current performance of the authority indicates the possibility of collecting up to 10 billion birr. The authority collected 1.17 billion birr in the first quarter of this budget, attaining 105 per cent of its target.
According to the director, the revenue collected in the first quarter of the budget year has shown 57 million birr increase compared to the same period the previous year.
