Pres. Girma calls on youth to contribute to building green economy
Addis Ababa, November 26/2012 (WIC) - President Girma Woldegiorgis called on youth to contribute share towards success of building green economy.
While discussing with students drawn from 31 universities here Sunday, President Girma stressed the need to building green economy with a view to ensuring development.
The president, who is patron of 13 months Green Ethiopia Project established by universities, said so far the project carried out commendable activities in environmental protection.
He said the project has significant contribution towards success of ongoing efforts of the government to build green economy, which is a matter of survival.
The president said students and instructors of higher learning institutions, the public and stakeholders are expected to contribute towards the same goal.
Ethiopian Higher Learning Institution Students’ Union President, Aklilu Tadesse on his part said various activities including awareness raising on environmental protection have been carried out through the project.
According to ENA, Aklilu said over 76,000 tree seedlings were transplanted in collaboration with stakeholders during the last main rainy season alone as part of the environmental protection activities. More than 60,000 of the seedlings have already taken roots, he said.
