Addis Ababa, November 24 (WIC) – Artisan gold miners supplied more than 2,552 kg of gold worth 132.7 million USD to the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) in the first quarter of the budget year, the Ministry of Mines (MoM) disclosed.
The gold supplied to the central bank was obtained from Tigray, Oromia, Benishangul Gumuz, SNNP and Gambella regional states, according to Bacha Fuji, Public Relations and Communications Directorate Director at MoM.
Compared to the same period last budget year, traditional gold miners supplied 488 kg more gold and an increase of 23.2 million USD in revenue. However, the three months performance is 77 percent of the ministry’s projection for the period.
Similarly, the ministry has earned over 2.3 million USD from export of nearly 4,867 kg (99 percent of the target) of jewels, Bacha told WIC. The three months export is 393.2 kg and nearly 753, 670 USD more compared to the same period last year.
Export of tantalum (7.77 tons) also earned the ministry over 293,000 USD, Bacha said.
