Addis Ababa, November 8 (WIC)-The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said voters’ and candidates’ registration for the upcoming local election will be held from 31st December, 2012 - 29th January, 2013.
NEBE Public Relations Officer, Yeshi Fekadu, told WIC today that the date for the registration was fixed and all necessary preparations have already made.
Yeshi further said NEBE is undertaking all the necessary preparations to make the upcoming local election free, fair and credible.
She said the board has looked at the strengths and weaknesses of the previous elections.
Lack of voters' civic education manual and implementation capacity of election executives were among the weaknesses observed in the previous elections, Yeshi said.
Accordingly, the board has prepared education manual in 13 languages and is also giving capacity building trainings to political parties to alleviate the problems, he said.
Yeshi further stated in order to increase women’s participation in the upcoming election, the board is currently giving several capacity building trainings to women.
