A statement Released from the secretariat of the council of the EPRDF

Esteemed peoples of our country,

Esteemed members of the EPRDF,

The entire partners of our struggle!

The management and the entire employee of the secretariat of the council Of the  EPRDF express their deep sorrow over the  Bereavement of the great leader of our organization Comrade Meles Zenawi  who  has led our organization since its  foundation and enabled us bring about  fundamental change in the history of our country.  Expressing its heartfelt sorrow over the death of the Chairperson of our organization,  Comrade Meles  Zenawi, the  secretariat of the council Of the EPRDF extends its high sympathy to the entire people of our  country, members of our organization and his entire family.

Even though we feel deep sorrow and distress over the death of the great leader of our organization, we like to express that we stood up with high commitment to

make a reality his visions by struggling firmly  based on his revered performances  and following the line of struggle he left for us. Esteemed peoples of our country,Esteemed members of the EPRDF, Entire partners of our struggle!

Above all, the chairperson of our organization, Comrade Meles Zenawi, was the son of the people who believe in generating innovative ideas and in building an  organization and a government that execute those  ideas, and has implemented  these practically.  Comrade Meles Zenawi, who believes that we have no enemy than poverty and

ignorance, has passed his life time fighting poverty, ignorance and backwardness.

Believing that poverty is triumphed by  extending a struggle led through a cleansed line of struggle, He was a great leader of our organization who enabled the organization own a cleansed line of struggle. The  great  leader  of our organization, comrade Meles Zenawi was a knowledgeable and a farsighted leader who enabled our organization overcome  the challenge  it  encountered at every chapter  of struggle with maturity and devotion. He has extended competent political, military and organizational leadership in the straggle waged to overthrow the dictatorial regime and realize justice and equality for the people.

After the formation of the transitional government, he has  given competent leader ship in enabling Ethiopia build a new federal democratic system on the one hand, and in  realizing smooth transition from command economy to  market

economy on the other. Comrade Meles Zenawi, having held the position  that decisive strives should be extended focusing in rural areas and agriculture that have been forgotten for long so as to end the long aged famine from Ethiopia, has ignited a green development revolution and extended unreserved effort to dismantle poverty from rural areas being hand in hand with Ethiopian peasants.

Comrade Meles Zenawi has extended unreserved effort, in urban areas, to stimulate and make competitive the industry and service  sectors, to realize a country where citizens work and become prosperous and for the creation of domestic investors who supply competitive products and services to the world market utilizing their capital and knowledge.  He  was  also  a leader who  laid foundation for the development of micro and small scale enterprises so that  citizens would organize themselves and get job opportunities under these enterprises and ensure self reliance.

The chair person of our organization, who was named as <> after he had formulated the plan to utilize the water of Nile  for evelopment and its practical implementation so as to make a reality the long  aged dreams of Ethiopians, has strived day and night for Ethiopia to have modern infrastructures as a result of  the competent leadership of  which telecommunication,  electric, roads and railway infrastructures have been expanded broadly.

Beyond the national and organizational  strong  leadership  roles he played, the chair person of our organization, comrade Meles zenawi has contributed much for the realization of peace and stability in the horn of Africa, has strived to laud the voice of Africa in the international forum.  He was also a great leader who earned high level acceptance in the entire Africa and the world by the role of his

leadership.

Esteemed peoples of our country and partners of our struggle! Even though the sorrow we felt over the death of our great leader, comrade Meles  Zenawi is so deep, the  secretariat  of the council of the EPRDF ensures

that the reform  and the bright hope of growth launched through his vision and competent  leadership will be continued firmly. In order for accelerated economic

growth and democratic system building launched in our country be continued, the secretariat of the council of the EPRDF calls up on you to extend your firm strive for the building  of prosperous and developed Ethiopia today as well ,as you have registered sparkling victory by  standing beside our great leader and

organization .

However we felt a deep sorrow as we lost our leader, it is believed that we will

execute our culture of striving for fulfilling our vision by holding firmly the strong

organization and government he left for us. The vision of our leader,  comrade

Meles Zenawi, has already become the vision of the entire members of  our

organization and the peoples of  our country. Being guided by the  strong

organization we have formed and by the developmental government we  have established, and following the example of the leader of our organization, let us

move with commitment for the realization of our communal vision as we did in the previous years.

We are expected to strive to finalize the commenced duties and successes unreservedly so as to avoid poverty and backwardness that our great leader and organization identified as number one enemy of us and fight against them, as a reflection of the respect we have for him by dressing in the commitment he had in giving priority to the interest of the people than ours.

The secretariat of the council of the EPRDF wishes its sympathy again to the entire members of the EPRDF,the peoples of Ethiopia,his family, friends and relatives over the death of our leader Meles Zenawi.

The vision of Meles and the EPRDF will continue lively!!!
