EPRDF Council commences regular meeting

Addis Ababa, September 15 (WIC) - The Council of the EPRDF has commenced its regular meeting yesterday by conducting a minute of silence commemorating the great leader of the organization, the late Meles Zenawi.

The Council has then discussed and approved the draft agenda proposed for the discussion.


One of the agendum is entitled “let us strive to realize the visions of Meles/EPRDF by ensuring the practical sovereignty of the developmental democratic outlook” that focused on issues of continuing the achievements gained by the leadership of the organization and the great leader as well as  matters of withstanding the subsequent challenges.

The Council will also discuss the agendum that focuses on the document entitled” building the leadership and the stride of the renaissance” which was prepared and discussed on by the Executive Committee earlier, in the presence of the great leader.

The third agendum includes activities of development, good-governance as well as political and organizational activities that should be carried out by the government and organization sectors.

It also fills the gap of leadership experienced following the bereavement of the great leader, PM Meles, by conducting election in accordance with the statue of the organization.

In its discussion on the first agendum, the council has evaluated the condition prevailing in our country, our region and in other parts of the world in association with our issues after the bereavement of PM Meles, and based on this, has discussed on ways of continuing strengthened the developmental-democratic system which should be conducted in a strengthened manner in our country.

In addition, the conference has appreciated and presented gratitude to the entire peoples of our country, African partners, and notable institutions of the world and leaders of countries for the respect and recognition given to our great leader and for the progress registered in our country through his leadership.

It also understood that the responsibility entrusted to the organization was very weightier.
Accordingly, the meeting has reached agreement discussing the directions and the tactics that enable to continue the launched developmental and democratic stride of renaissance by the participation of the entire members and supporters of the struggle as well as the entire peoples of Ethiopia, who are the owners and beneficiaries of the reform.

The conference will continue the discussion on other themes and agenda today.
Participated in this EPRDF regular meeting as invited guests are, Chairpersons of the parties allied to the EPRDF of Somali, Afar, Harari, Benshangul-Gumuz, and Gambella as well as Presidents of Regional States.
