Woreda to dig 36 water wells
Addis Ababa, September 14, 2012 (WIC) - Activities are underway to dig 36 water wells in Raya Azebo Woreda of Tigray State with over 105 million Birr, the woreda water development office said.
Office Head, Manaye Getahun told ENA that upon going fully operational after a year the water wells will have capacity to develop 18,000 hectares land.
The head said 15,450 farmers will benefit from the water wells, which will be dug with the budget allocated by the regional and federal governments.
According to ENA, Manaye said the water wells will help the farmers to harvest more than twice a year.
The number of farmers engaged in irrigation development has now increased to 6.8 per cent from the previous 5.5 per cent in the woreda. Efforts are being strengthened to enable farmers benefit from modern agricultural technology in the woreda, he said.
