Agency to enhance modern meteorological info

Addis Ababa, August 20 (WIC) - The Ethiopian Meteorological Agency said it is striving to put in place modern meteorological information system used to enhance the socio-economic development of the country.


Agency Director General, Fetene Teshome told ENA that the Agency is exerting utmost efforts to enhance quality of climatology information service to desirable level from 93 percent at present.


The Agency plans to install eight communication radios, upgrade existing 36 fourth level stations to third level, revamp 20 major stations and install one station used to detect pollution.


He said the Agency will also employ modern climate forecast used to support socio-economic development, predict weather conditions and reduce natural disasters.


According to the Director General, the Agency has targeted to raise its climatology and forecast information access related to aviation, agriculture, water and energy and health to 85 percent from 65 percent at present.


The Director said research and capacity building activities will be carried out in this budget year to reach 50 percent pollution observation.
