City transfers 7,300 condos houses to beneficiaries
Addis Ababa, August 20 (WIC) - The Addis Ababa City Administration transferred 7,300 condominium houses to beneficiaries in a lot on Sunday.
The seventh round lot included condominium houses located in Lidetta, Nifas Silk Lafto, Bole, Kolfe-Keranio, Akaki-kality, Addis Ketema, Kirkos and Yeka sub-cities.
Speaking on the occasion, Urban Development and Construction State Minister, Eng. Hailemeskel Tefera said government has spent over 15.4 billion Birr since the commencement of the project in 2005.
He said 7.8 billion Birr of the stated amount was earmarked to housing projects in Addis Ababa which showcases the commitment of the government to alleviate housing problems.
Over 207,000 houses were built in the program of which over 140,000 are found in Addis Ababa, he said.
City Administration Construction and Housing Development Bureau Head Getachew Hailemariam on his part said preconstruction studies depicted that 80 percent of residences in Addis Ababa are dilapidated.
City Mayor, Kuma Demeksa on his part said that transparent way of transferring condos to beneficiaries has proved that the government is committed to fair distribution of resources.
He said the transparent lot drawing system has firmly revoked fabricated stories about condos constructed at Lideta site through Local area Development Program (LDP).
More than 72,000 condominium houses have been built and transferred to beneficiaries since the commencement of the project in 2005.
The City Administration has planned to construct over 170,000 houses in the coming three years.
