Over 600,000 metropolitans embraced in health extension program
Addis Ababa, August 3 (WIC) – More than 600,000 households in the metropolis have been embraced in urban health extension program, according to the Addis Ababa Health Bureau.
Bureau Health Improvement and Disease Prevention Deputy Head, Getachew Teshome, told WIC the program embraced about 88 per cent of residents of the city.
The program, which began late in 2001 E C, also created more than 139,000 model households, he said.
Owning to the implementation of the program, about 80 percent of women now give birth in health centers, according to Getachew.
Efforts are underway to strengthen the program in this Ethiopian budget year, he said.
