Scholars express readiness to provide support to Grand Dam construction
Addis Ababa, July 26, 2012 (WIC) - Instructors of Science and Technology Faculty of the Addis Ababa University expressed readiness to provide the necessary support toward success of construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
More than 50 instructors and employees of the Faculty visited construction of the Dam being carried out in Guba Woreda of Benishangul Gumuz State.
Speaking on the occasion Natural Science College Dean, Professor Negussie Reta said construction of the Dam should not be left to the government alone.
Professor Negussie said the instructors are ready to provide professional assistance in addition to financial support towards success of construction of the Dam.
Two of the instructors Prof. Legesse Negash and Dr. Asfawossen Asrat on their parts said the Dam is pride to the country.
Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam construction Project Manager, Engineer Simegnew Bekele on his part said construction of the Dam is well in progress and it is expected to be finalized as per schedule.
According to ENA, Engineer Simegnew said the Dam is the biggest hydro electric power project in Africa.
Ethiopia covers the entire cost for construction of the Dam, which will have capacity to generate 6000MW
electric power.
PM Meles Zenawi laid foundation stone for construction of the Dam on 2 April 2011.
