Ethiopia earns over $ 255 mln from manufacturing sector

Addis Ababa, July 23 (WIC) – Manufacturing sector export has generated over $ 255 million in the just concluded Ethiopian budget year, according to the Ministry of Industry (MoI).

Public Relations Directorate Director with MoI, Melaku Taye, told WIC that the revenue was obtained from textile and clothing, leather and leather products, agro-processing, chemical and pharmaceutical products.

He said Germany, Turkey, Italy, Djibouti, Sudan, United States, China, Belgium, UK, and the Netherlands were the major export destinations of the products.

The revenue earned in the reported exceeded by 22.8 percent as compared to the previous budget year, according to Melaku.

Of the 27 manufacturing industries which made a large contribution for the revenue, Ayka Addis textile and investment group plc took the lion’s share, he said.


Melaku added efforts would be made to boost the income from the sector this Ethiopian budget year by attaching due attention for potential export products.
