Construction of mental hospital, research institute well underway

Addis Ababa, June 29 (WIC) - The Ministry of Health (MoH) is undertaking the construction of a modern hospital for mental illness and a research institute in Addis Ababa with 190 million Birr.

According to Mekbib Abera, Project Engineer with the construction company, Santa Maria Construction Company, 53 per cent of construction of the hospital has been completed. The construction was launched a year and a half year ago.

Mekbib believes the Hospital will fully become operational in less than two years.

Public Relation Officer at the Amanuel Specialized Mental Hospital, Aschalew Abayneh said that the hospital will have 292 beds.

He said the hospital, which will also give service to outpatients, will provide efficient service to people suffering from mental disorder.

Aschalew said 110 million Birr budget is allocated for construction of a psychiatric department, offices and the mental research institute. (ENA)
