Mass media's accessibility, presentation improving yet capacity limitation challenges, Authority

Addis Ababa, June 28, 2012( WIC)- The Ethiopian Broadcast Authority (EBA) said though the accessibility and presentation of mass media is improving, still they have wide capacity limitation.

Speaking at a relevant training for program producers and editors here on Wednesday Authority Director General Desta Tesfaw said a lot has to be done to satisfy the need of the public and mass media should go along with the speedy development in the country.

He said capacity building works are underway by various institutions to improve the capacity of mass media.

Mass media is playing indispensable role in attaining the aspirations of the Growth and Transformation Plan, he said and adding, they should provide correct, timely, balance information about ongoing development efforts to the public.

Desta noted that scaling up the experiences of India, China and South Korea in Development Journalism is vital in his presentation on the Relevance of Development Journalism.

The four-day training covers topics including concepts of Development Journalism, Basics Laws of mass media, Religious Equality and Tolerance, tax system and the Role of Media.

Papers on Journalism Ethics and Good Practice and Basic laws mass media and Implementation in Ethiopia were also presented by Government Communication Affairs Office News and

Program Production Director Taddesse Zinaye and Authority Legal Affairs Coordination Head Gizaw Tesfaye respectively.
Media professionals from government and private media houses are taking part in the training. (ENA)
