May 28 marked in Gambella town
Gambella, May 29 (WIC) – Residents of Gambella town yesterday celebrated the 21st anniversary of the victory of May 28 with various assortments.
The dwellers, including cabinet members, and members of the national defense and police forces marked the day with a peaceful demonstration, cultural dances and various events
Chief Administrator of Gambella State, Umod Ubong, on the occasion said this year’s celebration is special as it coincided with 1st year anniversary of the Grand Renaissance Dam and two-year successful implementation of Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP).
Moreover, this year’s event is special as it concurred with the arrest of the 15 terrorists striving to deter the ongoing huge investment in the state and to subvert the peace and unity of the dwellers, he said.
“The arrest of these terrorists following the joint efforts of the government, the public, the defense force, the federal and state police as well as the anti-terrorism task force, is an additional victory for May 28,” he said
These anti-peace elements, supported by the Eritrean government, have recently killed over 25 students and employees of Gambella Education and Science College and Saudi Star Agricultural Business, respectively.
As Umod stated, discouraging the ongoing investment and villagization program and undermining the peace and unity of nations and nationalities are the reason behind their wicked attack.
The Chief finally called on residents to contribute their share in the efforts being made by the government of Ethiopia and South Sudan to get rid of these terrorists.
Mayor of Gambella town, Bole Kate, on his part urged residents of the town to protect the success gained by May 28 victory and do their level best to build democracy and expedite development in the state.
