Delegation led by HoF Speaker leaves for Lilongwe, Malawi

Addis Ababa, April 24 (WIC) -  An Ethiopian government delegation led by Speaker of the House of Federation (HoF) Kassa Tekleberhan left for Lilongwe, Malawi to attend burial of the late President Bingu wa Mutharika.

According to a statement HoF sent to ENA, the late President Mutharika had served as ambassador of Malawi to Ethiopia before he became President of that country.

During his term as ambassador he significantly contributed to enhance bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Malawi.

Mutharika, who ruled Malawi for eight years, died of heart attack at the age of 78.

Mutharika served in the Malawi civil service. He has served as Administrative Officer in the Government of Malawi . He was offered the Deputy Governorship of the reserve Bank

of Malawi and appointed Minister of Economic Planning and Development in 2002.

He also worked at the World Bank as a Loans Officer and at the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa, as Director of Trade and Development Finance and had servedas Secretary-General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa COMESA.

According to ENA, the late President Mutharika is survived by his four children.
