Efforts towards sustainability of dev’t activities continue strengthened
Addis Ababa, April 24 (WIC) - Ongoing efforts towards sustainability of development activities and also to ensure the benefits of the public in Gambella State will further continue strengthened, State Chief Umod Ubong said.
Umod told ENA that encouraging activities are carried out in the state in particular in the education, health, agriculture, capacity building, road construction and safe water provision.
He said the state managed to create more than 600 professionals in collaboration with the federal government.
Currently, a five-year Growth and Transformation Plan is being implemented in the state taking into account the real situation in the state and achieve the MDGs.
The chief said encouraging activities are underway in the villagization program intended to regroup 45,000 scattered households.
More than 20,000 voluntary households drawn from farmers and semi-pastoralists benefited from the first phase of the program last year. The plan was to regroup 15,000 voluntary households.
Similarly, activities are underway to regroup nearly 15,000 voluntary households this year.
According to ENA, the program is significant to enable farmers and semi-pastoralists benefit from professional support of development agents thereby ensure food security.
Side by side with the villagization program, the region is undertaking various development projects in the areas of health, agriculture, road construction, education and safe water provision with over 235 million Birr allocated by the government to achieve the MDGs, he said.
