TB incidence on decline in Ethiopia: EHNRI

Addis Ababa, March 16 (WIC) – The Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI) said that tuberculosis (TB) incidence is decreasing across the country.

Institute Public Relations Head, Abel Yeshaneh told WIC the research conducted by EHNRI revealed that the prevalence rate of the disease is declining at a national level.

The report released by WHO recently states that TB prevalence rate in Ethiopia is 317 per 100,000 people. However, the actual figure is 108 per 100,000 people, he said.

He said the institutes would continue the research it has been conducting on polio epidemics until the disease is eradicated from the country.

EHNRI conducts researches giving priority to public health and nutrition problems, strives to advance technology transfer, builds capacity of health laboratories to enable them offer sustainable services, among others.
