9th edition of 2012 Choice Women First 5km run to take place coming Sunday

Addis Ababa, March 7 (WIC) – More than 8,600 women are registered for the 9th edition of the 2012 Choice Women First 5km run which will take place this coming Sunday, according to Great Ethiopian Run (GER).

“The race is being organized in connection with the international women’s day which will be celebrated for the 101th time this year with a main race slogan of ‘Empower Women to Make a Difference,’ ” a statement issued by the GER said.

Participants are included from more than 70 organizations in Addis Ababa, embassies, schools, colleges, and government organizations, it said. 

Moreover, about 150 female club athletes will take part in the race. Over 400 free places have been given out to organizations and women who cannot afford to register for the run.

The winner’s prize has increased to 10,000 birr and a course record bonus of 2,000 birr is also on offer. The course record currently stands at 15:44:16.

All participants finishing the race will receive medal.
