Ethiopia, China sign accord for Mieso-Diredawa-Dewele Railway Construction

Addis Ababa, December 17 (WIC) - Ethiopian Railway Corporation and China Civil Engineering Construction Cooperation (CCECC) signed agreement Friday providing for the construction of Mieso-Diredawa-Dewele railway line which covers a total length of 339 km.

Corporation General Manager, Dr. Eng. Getachew Betru and CCECC President, Yuan Li has signed the 1.18 billion birr agreement.

In a bid to keeping the current growth momentum and providing modern and reliable railway service, Ethiopia is in due process of revitalizing its railway transport sector.
The Mieso-Diredawa-Dewele railway project is part of the national railway grid that stretches from Addis Ababa to Djibouti.

According to the general manager the construction cost will be covered by the governments of Ethiopia and China.

Ethiopian Ambassador to China, Seyoum Mesfin, Transport Minister, Deriba Kuma and higher government officials have attended the occasion.

Ethiopian Railway Corporation has undertaken designs and aerial survey of 5,060 km of railway to be constructed in the eight development corridors of the country in five years. (ENA/ERTA)
