Azeb urges African First Ladies intensify fight against HIV/AIDS PDF Print E-mail

Addis Ababa, February 4 (WIC) -
Chairperson of the Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA), First Lady Azeb Mesfin said the valuable lessons obtained in the fight against HIV/AIDS need to be further scaled up.

 

Speaking at the Extraordinary General Assembly of OAFLA held here at the Conference Center of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Azeb said African countries need to energize the efforts against HIV/AIDS.    

 

She said encouraging results are being registered in African countries owing to the exceptional work that African First Ladies are doing in the response to HIV/AIDS.    

 

She said the new organization's four-year strategic plan would have paramount importance to achieve the goals of the organization.   

 

Azeb finally called upon African First Ladies to play leading role in the fights against HIV/AIDS.     

 

UNAIDS Regional Support Team for West and Central Africa, Dr.Meskerem Grunitzky Bekele on her part said that the efforts African First Ladies are exerting to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS is laudable.   

 

OAFLA’s contribution in the fight against HIV/AIDS is commendable and UNAIDS would work in collaboration with OAFLA’s so as to further scale up the prevention activities.

 

 

African First Ladies, Ministers, HIV/AIDS experts and invited guests attended the assembly.
