February 9, 2010 -- The European Union will deploy an exploratory mission to Ethiopia from 15-25 February 2010 to asses the deployment of an EU Election Observation Mission for the May 2010 national elections, APA learns here on Monday.
Ethiopia is preparing to hold a national election by May 2010 for the fourth time under the current government where millions of Ethiopians are currently being registered to cast their votes. The European Union exploratory mission is coming to Ethiopia following an invitation by the Ethiopian government to observe the election, according to the EU delegation to Ethiopia. It is to be recalled that Ethiopia a month ago extended an invitation to the EU and the Carter Center to monitor the upcoming elections.
According to the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), over 20 million people have been registered so far to cast their votes. The board estimates that around 30 million people will be registered by the end of the voter registration exercise within the next two weeks. (APA) |
