Harar, February 8 (WIC) – The European Union (EU) has reportedly earmarked over 380 million birr for food security programs due to be carried out in four states this year.
EU Delegation to Ethiopia, Rural Development and Food Security Non–governmental Organizations (NGOs) Program Manager, Berhanu Taye, said at a workshop organized in Harar town that the programs would be undertaken in Oromia, Amhara, SNNP and Tigray states. He said a total of 13 food security programs, including six in SNNP, five in Oromia and one in Amhara and one in Tigray states would be carried out. He said the programs mainly focus on improving agricultural productivity, safety net programs and supply of agricultural inputs, among others. Moreover, 1.8 million birr of the fund would be used to assist research activities of the Haremaya University, he indicated. He said the programs would be carried out through 12 international and one indigenous non-governmental organizations in 68 rural woredas of the above mentioned four states. The programs would benefit about one million people, according to Berhanu. |
