Pastoralists benefiting from irrigation dev’t PDF Print E-mail

Dasenech, December 24 (WIC) – Pastoralists in Dasenech and Nagatom woredas of south Omo zone said they are benefiting from irrigation development activities. More than 34,000 pastoralists in 23 kebeles are taking part in irrigation development.

 

 

Representative of Dasenech woreda, Belay Metekia, said more than 33, 000 households residing in 20 kebeles of the woreda are developing 950 hectares of land through irrigation.

 

 

  

The pastoralists are developing sorghum, backyard vegetables, and fruits so as to ensure their food security.  

  

The government is fulfilling the necessary telecommunications, education, health, and potable water facilities in the areas, he said.

 

  

Administrator of Nagatom woreda, Ekal Netir, on his part said 160 households are taking part in irrigation development following the support being given by the government.

 

 

  Activities are underway to launch sesame development in the woreda soon, he indicated.
