Nation earns over 176 mln birr from fish resource

Addis Ababa, December 23 (WIC) – The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MoARD) said more than 176 million birr has been obtained fish products last budget year.
Ministry Fish Resource Development Expert, Hussen Abegaz, told WIC that the revenue was earned from 16,770 tonnes of fish supplied to markets.
He said nine million birr of the revenue was obtained from 400 tonnes of fish supplied to overseas market, particularly to Sudan. He further said efforts are underway to efficiently exploit the fish resource available in the country. Only one–third of the over 50,000 tonnes of fish resource available in the country is being utilized, according to Hussen. |
