Addis Ababa, December 23 (WIC) – The Addis Ababa City Administration Finance and Economic Development Bureau called on taxpayers to join hands with the government so as to expedite development in the city.

Bureau Head, Belaynesh Teklay, said at a consultative forum organized here yesterday that the tax system should be improved in order to expedite the development activities being carried out in water, housing, road and other development sectors.

She said taxpayers therefore need to discharge their responsibilities in paying out tax honestly and timely.  She note that the bureau has collected 2.3 billion birr revenue last budget year, up from the one billion birr secured six years ago. According to Belaynesh, the revenue being collected is less than expected.

Taxpayers on the occasion have raised problems being witnessed in the tax collection system.

Belaynesh on her part said the bureau is taking various measures to address the problems.
