Addis Ababa, November 26 (WIC) – Gender Based Violence Campaign–Ethiopia (GBVC-E) called upon all concerned bodies to better integrate and heighten actions to safeguard women and children being severely harmed and dying as a result of brutal action of gender based violence.

The remark came here yesterday at a press conference organized to mark the 16 Days Activism against Gender Based Violence Campaign under the theme “Commit-Act-Demand: We can End Violence against Women!”   GBVC-E Chairperson, Saba Gebremedhin, on the occasion said the campaign is aimed at raising awareness of the public on women’s and children's rights.

Recognizing that violence against women affects people from every country, race, class, culture and religion, the 16 days campaign provides an opportunity for activist to work together in solidarity and draw upon this period of heightened international attention to gain support for their local efforts.

She said the action being taken by government and non-government organizations to prevent and stop action of gender based violence on women and children in Ethiopia are very proactive and encouraging.

According to Saba, GBVC-E has registered good results in bringing anti GBV efforts together and integrating the activities of various institutions working to see GBV-free Ethiopia.

Training, carnival, media campaign, high level consultation workshop and other programs will take place during the 16 days of activism against GBV, she indicated.

Saba finally called upon all section of the society to take active role in the celebration of the 16 days campaign.
