Gov’t undertaking activities enabling to prevent violence against women: Degifie PDF Print E-mail

Addis Ababa, November 26, 2009 -Speaker of the House of Federation Degifie Bula said the government has been undertaking activities aiming at preventing gender violence against women.

 

Degifie said prime attention is given to enabling women actively participate in the political, economic and social affairs of the country side by side preventing violence against women.

 

Degifie was speaking here on Wednesday in connection with White Ribbon Day.

 

 

The speaker urged the public to rally behind the government in the efforts to prevent violence against women.

 

Women's Affairs Minister, Muferiat Kamil on her part said gender based violence against women brings about harm not only to individuals but also to the country.  

 

The minister on the occasion called on all sides to work together to prevent violence against women.

 

White Ribbon Day is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. Men wear white ribbons to express beliefs that violence towards women is unacceptable. (ENA)
