Germany pledges 30 mln euro aid for AU

Addis Ababa, November 19, (WIC) - The German government on Wednesday pledged additional funding amounting 30 million euro for the African Union (AU) for the period of 2009/10.
Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Erastus Mwencha, and Head of the German delegation, Thomas Albert, signed the agreement here at AU Headquarter. Mwencha said on the occasion that the funding will further strength the bilateral relations between Germany and AU. He said the support will be fully utilized to the new AU strategic objectives, such as peace and security, development, integration and cooperation, as well as institutional transformation. Head of the German delegation, Thomas Albert, on his part lauded the AU strategic plan 2009-2012 and the significant progress the AU made in advancing the African political agenda such as peace and security. Both parties agreed to focus cooperation on areas of pan-African importance to maximize impact and visibility and to enhance aid effectiveness. |
