Nation deploys over 3,000 peacekeepers in Liberia, Darfur

 Addis Ababa, November 18 (WIC) –The Ministry of National Defense said Ethiopia has deployed more than 3,000 peacekeepers in Liberia and Darfur alone.
Ministry Peacekeeping Center Head, Major General Yohannes Gebre-Meskel, told WIC the country has deployed 2,145 troops in Darfur, Sudan. Infantry battalion, transport and multi-role companies were among the Ethiopian troops deployed in Dafrur, according to Major General Yohannes. Major General Yohannes further indicated that Ethiopia has deployed 16, 579 peacekeepers in Liberia in eight rounds including the 869 troops that will finish their mission next December.
Ethiopian peacekeepers have successfully accomplished their peacekeeping mission in Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Burundi and Rwanda in addition to Liberia and Darfur, Major General Yohannes added. Ethiopia ranks 10th from the 118 UN member countries and 5th from Africa in deploying peacekeepers, according to Major General Yohannes. |
