Premier holds talks with Finnish delegation

Addis Ababa, November 11, 2009 - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi said Finnish investors will be successful if they engage in various investment sectors in Ethiopia. The premier called on Finnish investors to engage in geothermal, wind power, hydro power and bio-energy sectors.
Meles held discussion with a Finnish delegation led by Secretary of State Pertti Torstila here on Wednesday. He called up on Finnish companies on the occasion to use investment opportunities in Ethiopia. Meles commended development aid of the Finnish government, which is amounting to 20 million euro a year. He said Africa will voice out its concern and is hopeful to get best out of the meeting in the upcoming Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.
The premier briefed the delegation on Ethiopia’s policies and ongoing endeavors towards development. Torstila on his part said Ethiopia’s role in representing Africa on the issue of climate change is important to address the issue at the international forum. Ethiopia is strategic country for Finland, he said, adding, his country is keen to further enhance age long relations with Ethiopia. The two parties have also discussed continental as well as international issues that include peace and security issues in the horn.
Finnish delegation comprising members of parliament, representatives of media, executive managers of enterprises, church and government authorities are on four-day visit to Ethiopia.
Earlier the Finnish embassy in Addis Ababa said the delegation has chosen to visit Ethiopia because of its importance for the bilateral relation with Finland and its role in the African continent in general as the seat of the African Union. (ENA) |
