Efforts underway to develop rain deficit areas

Addis Ababa, November 10 (WIC) – Prime Minister's Advisor on Basin Affairs with the Council of Ministers, Shiferaw Jarso, said activities aimed at developing rain deficit areas are underway through utilizing surface and ground water.
Shiferaw told WIC today that efforts have already been launched to efficiently utilize the water resource available in low land areas of Tigray, Amhara, Somali, Harari and Oromia states as well as Dire Dawa city administration. According to Shiferaw, ground water is essential to ensure food security and carry out various development activities during dry season. He added utmost efforts are being made to efficiently utilize the water resources available in Borena area for various development activities following the study carried out at a cost of 100 million birr. Activities are also underway to utilize the surface water available in Somali state for irrigation development. |
