Addis Ababa, November 10, 2009 - Prime Minster Meles Zenawi expressed hope that the China – Africa cooperation, which is based on mutual benefits will further be intensified.
Speaking at the fourth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) at Sharm el-Sheikh Meles said the cooperation has been augmented since the establishment of the forum especially over the past five years. He said the trade balance has increased to 106 billion USD from 10 billion USD in the reported period. Meles said China-Africa cooperation is getting strengthened amidst the current global economic and financial crises. According to the Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, Chinese cooperation and support to Africa has been doubled after the Beijing Summit of the forum. The Premier said China continues its support in eight identified areas including peace and security, agriculture, health and people to people relations. China will work closely with Africa to establish forum on the issue of climate change, cooperate in energy development, science and technology as well as building financial capacity, he said, adding, it will also provide support amounting to 10 billion USD for Africa. China will also open up more chances for zero tariff schemes. It will construct agricultural technology demonstration centers, health facilities and schools, among others, he said. Leaders of Egypt, Uganda, Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania Congo and AUC chairperson Jean Ping delivered speeches at the opening of the fourth FOCAC summit. (ENA) |
