Seyoum: Ethiopia supports effort to ensure peace, stability in horn of Africa PDF Print E-mail

Addis Ababa, November 3, 2009 - Foreign Affairs Minister Seyoum Mesfin said Ethiopia would extend its support to ongoing efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the horn of Africa.

 

 

 

Addressing the 5th Extra-Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Defence of the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade (EASBRIG) here on Tuesday Seyoum confirmed Ethiopia's commitment to provide all the necessary support for the realization of well equipped EASBRIG.

 

Seyoum said ensuring peace and stability in the region will not be beyond the capacity of member states. However, he said strong cooperation among member states is highly essential for the desired goals to be achieved.

 

He urged member states to redouble their effort to increase the preparation and the generation capability of EASBRIG.

 

The region continues to face daunting challenges in the area of peace and security, he said, adding the case of Somalia has become one of the most threats to regional and international peace and security.

 

The minister said Ethiopia will honor the sacrifice of Ugandan and Burundian soldiers at peacekeeping mission in which he said showed getting bold of pan African friendship spirit.

 

He said the meeting is expected to pass resolution on ways to strengthen the institutional capacity and future endeavors of the EASBRIG.

 

Representatives from African Union Peace and Security Council, UN Security Council, diplomats and invited guests are taking part in the meeting. (ENA)
