Addis Ababa, July 6 (WIC) - The Ethiopian Horticulture Development Agency announced that the government is constructing practical horticulture training centers so as to produce skilled man power needed in the sector.

Agency Director General, Hailesilasie Tekae, told WIC that the government is constructing the practical training centers with 40 million birr budget.

The Melkasa Horticulture Training, being constructed on five hectares of land in Oromia state with 20 million birr budget, is expected to be finalized next September, he said.

According to the Director General, about 60 per cent of the budget for the construction of the center was secured from the governments of the United States and the Netherlands, while the balance has been covered by the federal government.

The centers would offer trainings with highly qualified foreign experts of the field, Hailesilasie  said, while 10 Ethiopian professionals who would offer training  at the centers have attended trainings abroad.

The training centers that incorporate modern green houses and other facilities are believed to play considerable role in producing skilled man power in the horticulture sector, he said.

Ethiopia, over the past 11 months of the just ending budget year, earned 138 million USD from export of horticulture produces.
