Friday, 29 May 2009
Addis Ababa, May 29 (WIC) - The youth and women leagues, established on the eve of the May28 victory, reaffirmed that they would exert all efforts to sustain the development and democratic endeavors being made in the country.

EPRDF external affairs department head, Sekuture Getachew told WIC that the establishment of the leagues would contribute to step up the development and democratic endeavors being made in the country.

The head also pointed out that the leagues were established in line with the decision made during the 7th EPRDF organizational assembly, as it was believed that the leagues would be instrumental in expediting the development efforts in the country.

It is the front’s belief that its political principles need to be transferred to the new generation, Sekuture said, adding that the leagues were established with a view to producing young leaders.

The leagues would also play crucial role in ensuring the benefit of the youth and women along with other societal organizations, he said.

He also pointed out that the South Africa’s ANC, the Chinese Communist Party, the Sudanese National congress, the Germany social Democratic Party could be mentioned for having effective youth and women leagues.

EPRDF has drawn useful experiences of others political parties in various countries, he said, adding that efforts will be also made to strengthen the league in the years to come.

HAVE YOUR SAY

Eritrea is destabilizing the Horn of Africa. It has been fully sponsoring the terrorist groups in the region. Despite its negative roles in the Horn, the international community failed to take a tangible measure up on that country. Political analysts argue that little attention is given to the Horn of Africa both by the international community and developed countries. What do you say?
