Egyptian Embassy expresses deep condolence over PM Meles’ death
Addis Ababa, August 31, 2012 (WIC) - The Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa expressed its deepest and overwhelming grief over the passing away of PM Meles Zenawi.
In a condolence message it sent to WIC, the Embassy stated that Prime Minister Meles Zenwai, being a revolutionary at heart, had a great role in starting a new chapter in Ethiopian- Egyptian relationship, after the Egyptian 25th of January Revolution.
“He paid a visit to Egypt in September 2011 where he stressed the beginning of a new chapter in the relations between the two sisterly countries,” it stated.
According to the statement it is noteworthy to mention that on knowing the passing away of the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi; Egyptian President Mohamed Mursi talked over the phone and sent a condolence message to the Ethiopian President H.E. Girma Wolde Giorgis, expressing his deep condolence and sorrow over the passing away of H.E. Ato Zenawi.
The statement also indicated that the Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Kamel Amr phoned H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ato Hailemariam Desalegn, and sent a message of condolence, to express and share grief and sorrow over the passing away of the late Ethiopian Premier.
H.E. Dr. Hesham Kandil, Prime Minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt will head a high level delegation, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Kamel Amr, coming to Addis Ababa to participate in the funeral of H.E. Meles Zenawi.
“The Egyptian Embassy in Addis Ababa shares with all brothers and sisters in Ethiopia their sorrow and grief over the loss of both H.E. Ato Meles Zenawi and H.H. Abune Paulous, wishing them eternal peace and for sisterly Ethiopia and her beloved people peace, security and stability,” according to the statement.
The statement also indicated that Egypt will stand by sisterly Ethiopia and will be a partner in pursuing and achieving these goals for the benefits of the peoples of the two countries.
