Institutions pledge to achieve PM Meles’ vision for quality education

Addis Ababa, August 28 (WIC)-Public and private higher learning institutions community pledged to achieve the late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi’s dream for quality education in the country.

Students and staff of Addis Ababa, Unity and Admas universities made the remark while they were expressing their condolences on the death of the premier.

Prof. Biruk Lema, an Instructor of Biology and a Researcher at Addis Ababa University (AAU), said stakeholders in the education sector must work together to further improve quality of education in the country.

“Ethiopia has made a great stride in the expansion of higher learning institutions and now is our turn to maintain the quality of the education in these institutions”, Professor Biruk said.

Associate Professor in the Department of Earth Science at AAU, Dr Mulugeta Fiseha, on his part said PM Meles was not only an Ethiopian leader but also a great man who struggled to resolve Africa’s problems.

Dr. Mulugeta said Ethiopian intellectuals and elites have the responsibility to realize the premier’s development ambition.

Desta Asfaw, Vice President of Resource Management Service at Unity University, said “It is very difficult to express in words how shocking is to lose a leader like PM Meles.”

The premier has done a lot of jobs intended to alleviate poverty, he said, adding the development works the premier began will join the country among the group of middle income nations within the next 20 years.

President of Admas University, Molla Tsegaye, said the news of the death of the premier was shocking and heartbreaking. PM Meles taught rationality and insightfulness to the people of Ethiopia.

He said the whole nation has felt a lot with the death of the premier. The people should stand in unity and attain the development vision of the late premier, he added.

Similarly, students of the aforementioned three institutions said they will follow the footsteps of the prime minister and discharge their responsibilities for the success of the ongoing development activities.

The premier has done a lot in expanding higher education in the country, they said, further calling on community members of higher learning institutions to consolidate their efforts to ensure quality of education.
