IGAD express ‘deep sorrow’ over PM Meles Zenawi’s death
Addis Ababa, August 22, 2012 (WIC) – Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) expressed its deepest sorrow upon the death of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.
In a condolence message it sent to the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, IGAD stated: “it is with great sorrow and shock that the IGAD family learnt of the untimely passing away of H.E. Prime Minister Meles Zenawi.”
It conveyed its condolences to PM Meles’s family, ministers and the people of Ethiopia.
PM Meles Zenawi was Chairman of IGAD for five years.
“The IGAD region greatly benefited from the wise leadership, guidance and valuable contribution of the premier,” the statement said.
“During his chairmanship IGAD has shined in the international arena due to his successful management of the volatile situation affecting the region,” IGAD said in its statement adding Prime Minister Meles tirelessly worked for peace in Somalia, Sudan, Rwanda, Liberia and Burundi.
“IGAD’s fraternity will surely miss this great man with a focused vision and brilliant leadership,” the statement further said. “His vision of regional Economic Integration and Infrastructure Development, including the Great Renaissance Dam were inspirational to all.”
The statement expressed that the IGAD family join all Ethiopians in mourning H.E. PM Meles Zenawi’s death and pray Almighty GOD gives strength to his bereaved family and the whole country to cope with these trying and difficult times.
