Ethiopians in Dubai raise $2.5 mln for Renaissance Dam
Addis Ababa, July 2 (WIC) - The Ethiopians and foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday raised 2.5 million US dollars for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
Ethiopia’s Consul General in UAE, Misganaw Argaw, welcomed the commitment of Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia to nation’s development efforts and for realization of the building of the Dam.
As well as Ethiopians resident in the UAE, Sudanese and Somalis demonstrated their support for the project by buying bonds.
The event was attended by Ambassador Tekleab Kebede, Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Middle East Directorate-General and other invited guests.
Some 2,500 Ethiopians and others participated in the event at which Ethiopians musicians entertained the guests. The event was unique by itself in participating Ethiopian patriotic Sudanese and Somalis showed their help in purchasing bonds for the dam.
