Chairperson expresses concern over fighting outbreak in Juba
Addis Ababa, 18 December 2013 (WIC) - The African Union Commission Chairperson Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma expressed concern over the outbreak of fighting in parts of Juba, South Sudan since last Sunday, a press release issued by the AU said.
The Chairperson is particularly concerned about the safety and security of the civilian population.
She urged the Government and leadership of South Sudan and all other stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint and avert any further escalation.
The Chairperson urged them to seek solution for their differences through peaceful means, with due respect for the rule of law, human rights and constitutional legality.
She expressed AU's readiness to assist in finding a lasting solution to the current situation in that country.
