IGAD appoints a new Special Envoy to Somalia
Addis Ababa, 17 December 2013 (WIC) - As part of its commitment to contribute to the ongoing peace building efforts in Somalia, The Intergovernmental Authority on development (IGAD) has appointed a new Special Envoy Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey.
The New Special Envoy is an experienced Kenyan politician and parliamentarian, and has a significant experience in regional diplomacy.
Ambassador Affey has previously served as his country’s ambassador to Somalia during the critical year of 2003, and facilitated the Mbagathi Somalia peace process in 2004.
Ambassador Mahboub Maalim, the Executive Secretary of IGAD praised the role previously played by the newly appointed Special Envoy in consolidating peace in Somalia and wished him success in his new appointment.
