Authority to digitize existing analog TV broadcast

Addis Ababa, 29 August 2014 (WIC) – The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority (EBA) said converting the existing analog television to digital will be completed early 2008 E.C.

The move from analog television broadcast technology to digital will help to increase the number of channels to 20 from 6 at present, public relations coordination head at EBA, Workneh Tafa, told WIC.

According to Workneh, the authority has issued licenses to two local private commercial FM radio stations in the concluded Ethiopian budget year.

The licenses were given to Abay and Besrat Commercial FM Radio Stations, according to him.

The authority has also provided licenses to two community radio stations last Ethiopian budget year, he noted.

The Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority has a mission to work for the expansion of mass media through the issuance of broadcasting licenses.
