Dr. Tedros meets with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia

Addis Ababa, 22 August 2014 (WIC) - Dr. Tedros Adhanom met with UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Somalia, Nicholas Kay on Thursday (August 21).

Dr. Tedros noted that tremendous progress had been made in Somalia in terms of peace and security. He also reaffirmed that Ethiopia along with development partners would support the Federal Government’s efforts to promote peace, security and sustainable development in the country.

Mr. Kay, who thanked the Government of Ethiopia for hosting the successful Ministerial Meeting on UNHCR’s Global Initiative on Somali Refugees earlier this week, said he appreciated Ethiopia’s commitment to practical assistance for Somali refugees and displaced populations through sustainable, forward-looking and comprehensive solutions.

He also praised Ethiopia’s continuing support to the developments achieved in Somalia and the contributions of Ethiopian troops in improving the security situation.

He also noted that the UN and IGAD were jointly working to support the Government’s efforts to realize a stable, united and prosperous Somalia. (MoFA)
