Addis Ababa, 18 August 2014 (WIC) - A mobile SMS lottery is to be launched shortly to rally the general public behind the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project.
The National Council for Coordination of Public Participation for Construction of GERD made the announcement on Saturday.

According to Zadig Abraha, Director General for Office of the National Council, big prizes have already been secured from various donors and readied for the would-be lottery winners.

Fana Broadcasting Corporate and Ethio Telecom for their part took the initiative to offer the service free of charge.

To this end, an agreement was signed on Wednesday between the Council and Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

All the money to be collected from the fundraiser would solely be used for the GERD project, Zadig said, adding, all mobile user Ethiopians are expected to participate.

The SMS fundraiser is not a substitute to the GERD saving bonds, he said, and called on the public to keep on supporting the project in any every possible way.

The SMS fundraiser lasts for six months and the number to be used for the purpose is 8100.

First to third winners of the mobile SMS draw shall receive a well equipped modern house, a modern automobile, and a motorbike, respectively.
