Ground breaking ceremony for Meles’ green zone

Addis Ababa, 18 August 2014 (WIC) - A ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the late Meles Zenawi’s green zone was held today at Gulela sub city, Addis Ababa.

The construction of the green zone is expected to begin in the coming September.

Meles Zenawi’s foundation board chairperson Azeb Mesfin, EPRDF’s Addis Ababa office head Tewolde Gebretsadik and President of the Development Bank of Ethiopia, Isaias Bahere, laid the foundation stone for the green zone.

The eight million birr cost for the construction of the green zone is allocated by the Development Bank of Ethiopia and the construction is expected to be finalized within eight to twelve months.

The late Prime Minister Meles Zenawi had been vocal advocate of green economy and African voice in the global climate change talks.
