Ministry to use ambassadors promoting Ethiopia’s tourism
Addis Ababa, 15 August 2014 (WIC) - The Ministry of Culture and Tourism stated that it is going to use Ethiopian embassies in different countries to promote the nation’s tourist attractions.
The Ministry has held talks on Friday in Addis Ababa with Ethiopian ambassadors from different countries to discuss ways of attracting tourists to the nation.
The ambassadors for their part said that they will use every means to promote Ethiopian tourist destinations for the people of the country in which they are working in.
In the last Fiscal Year, Ethiopia has generated 2 billion USD from 72 thousand visitors.
It is stated that the income gleaned in the year is least weighted against the tourism potential Ethiopia has.
Out of the 12 oldest human remains in the world, Ethiopia owns the eleven; and it has 9 UNESCO registered world heritages.
The Ethiopian Tourism Minister, Amin Abdulkadir said 600 hundred hotels having the required standards and 350 tour operators are giving services for tourists visiting the country.
In 2012 the tourism sector generated 1.03 trillion USD in the world out of over 1 billion tourists. Out of this, Africa’s share is 34 million USD from 5.3 million people touring the continent. (ERTA)
