Dr Yinager receives Norway’s new ambassador

Addis Ababa, 9 August 2014 (WIC) - State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Yinager Dessie received copies of the credentials of newly appointed ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Ethiopia, Andreas Gaarder on Thursday.

Dr Yinager welcomed the ambassador and noted the long standing relationship between Ethiopia and Kingdom of Norway in socio-economic and political areas.

He said, however, that there was a minimal amount of trade and investment and Ethiopia and Norway should work to boost these sectors.

He appreciated Norway’s development co-operation to Ethiopia and stressed Ethiopia’s efforts to build a climate-resilient economy by investing in environmental protection and renewable energy sources including hydropower, solar, wind and geothermal energy sources.

Ambassador Gaarder expressed his appreciation of Ethiopia’s current economic growth and democratization process as well as its continued role in maintaining peace and security in the Horn of Africa.

While encouraging dialogue between Ethiopia and Egypt over the Nile and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the Ambassador noted that Norway was ready share its rich experience in renewable power production and transfer technologies for Ethiopia’s power sector.

Dr Yinager requested Ambassador Gaarder to work in close co-operation with Ethiopia to enhance the economic, social and political relations of the two countries and wished him a successful stay in Ethiopia. (MoFA)
